Frequently Asked Questions

How does Pilates work?

Pilates is a low-impact exercise that can help you develop a balanced and proportionate body. It works by restoring the natural movement rhythm of all your joints and improving your core stability.

What equipment is used in Pilates?

At Abbysan, we use Stott Pilates™ V2Max Reformers with Tower and SPX Reformers and Raised Mats to conduct mat Pilates classes.

What type of Pilates classes do you offer at Abbysan?

At Abbysan in Phuket, we offer – Essential body and Total body reformer classes (6-person), including a full-body workout that focuses on proportionately building strength and flexibility. – Posture clinic classes (3-person) use a reformer and tower (v2Max) and focus on balancing the posture muscles so that you can move well in reformer classes and in general. – A Balanced Body class (8-person) focuses on strengthening your core on the mat to maintain good posture, balance, control, and confidence in your body.

I am new to Pilates. How should I start?

An ideal way to start Pilates is to get three personalised Pilates Foundation sessions. These sessions offer full posture analysis, which is then tailored to develop initial core strength, learn to protect your spine, engage the right muscles for better movement in daily life, and prepare you for full-body Reformer workouts. If personalised sessions are not feasible, you can start with our Balanced body (on the mat) and Essential body (on the reformer) classes.
